Armii Krajowej 50, Wieś Pępowo
The Volkswagen Museum in Pępowo near Kartuzy is the largest private collection devoted to the brand in Poland and the only site of its kind in Pomerania. It holds more than 50 historic cars, from iconic Beetles to Transporters. The museum lies a dozen or so kilometres from Gdańsk, on the road heading towards Kashubia, which makes it easy to fit into a trip around the region.
The core of the display consists of vehicles from successive production decades: Beetles, the T1 and T2 vans known in Poland as „Ogórek” (the Cucumber), several generations of the Golf and a Kübelwagen in fire-service livery. This is complemented by a collection of around a thousand scale models from 1:64 to 1:18, along with advertising material and parts showing how the brand changed.
The museum appeals to motoring enthusiasts and families alike, and runs educational sessions on the history of the motor car. Historic vehicles can be hired for celebrations, and from spring to autumn visitors can take a ride in the T2 van. The exhibition is indoors, so the weather does not limit a visit.
