A film museum in the Scheibler Palace

The Museum of Cinematography occupies the former palace of Karol Scheibler on plac Zwycięstwa in Łódź, a city associated with its famous film school. It is the only institution in Poland that collects objects devoted to film technology, art and culture.

The collection

The holdings run to tens of thousands of items. The display leads from the pre-cinema era, with magic lanterns, a mutoscope and a restored stereoscopic Kaiserpanorama, on to photographic cameras, film cameras and projectors from the 19th century to the present. Posters, playbills, stills, scripts and set designs by Polish artists complete the picture.

Good to know

The palace interiors with their original decoration are an attraction in themselves, so the visit combines film history with a grand residence. The exhibition is entirely indoors and accessible for wheelchairs. Źródliska Park lies next door, and Księży Młyn, Scheibler's former factory estate, is close by.
