About the museum

The Museum of the Holy Cross stands on Góra Świętej Anny in the Opole region, in a former manorial inn some three hundred years old. Opened in 2020, it gathers objects connected with religious devotion, above all crosses. A collection of crucifixes on this scale has no counterpart in any other museum.

What to see

The display fills eleven rooms. It brings together small crosses worn on the body as well as standing and hanging ones made of various materials, alongside paintings and sculptures showing the Crucifixion. A separate „Room of a Thousand Crosses” sets side by side the crosses of different Christian denominations — a good place to learn to tell them apart. Prayer books, chasubles and devotional objects linked with St Anne complete the exhibition.

The area

The museum stands right next to the sanctuary of St Anne, one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Silesia. Nearby are the calvary with its chapels, an amphitheatre set in a former quarry and a geological reserve on an extinct volcano.
