The Dąbrowa Coal Basin in a nutshell

The Sztygarka City Museum in Dąbrowa Górnicza occupies buildings linked to the former mining school and is one of the oldest museums in the region. It presents the history of the Dąbrowa Coal Basin and the mining traditions that shaped the town for decades.

The collection

The holdings cover geology, archaeology, ethnography, natural history and technology. Visitors see fossils, rock paintings, miners' tools and mementoes from the history of Dąbrowa Górnicza. The museum belongs to the Industrial Monuments Route of the Silesian Voivodeship.

The training mine

The main attraction is a three-level training mine visited with a guide. It is an underground working with timbering and machinery, together with an account of a miner's job and the legends of the old pit. The temperature down there is low, so warm clothes and comfortable shoes come in handy.
