The former hospital complex in Frombork

The Holy Spirit Hospital in Frombork is a group of former hospital buildings with St Anne's Chapel, set below the cathedral hill. A care institution worked here from the 15th to the 18th century, and today the buildings house the Department of the History of Medicine of the Nicolaus Copernicus Museum.

The chapel and its paintings

The most valuable part of the complex are the medieval wall paintings in St Anne's Chapel. An elaborate Last Judgement covers the apse, while human figures, animals and plant motifs survive on the remaining walls. The interiors also contain the stoves of the old bathhouse.

Exhibitions and garden

The display presents old methods of treatment and the medical and pharmacy tools of the 19th and early 20th centuries, including glass and decorated porcelain apothecary vessels. A separate section covers Warmian sacred painting and sculpture. In the southern part of the complex there is a herb garden with medicinal plants.
