A museum in palace interiors

Muzealna Izba Tradycji Ziemi Grodziskiej occupies a historic 19th-century palace standing in the middle of the town park in Grodzisk Wielkopolski. Its collections document the past of the town and the surrounding villages: archaeology, regional ethnography, militaria and the brewing traditions for which Grodzisk was famous for centuries.

What to see

The showpiece of the display is a panorama of the defence of Grodzisk Wielkopolski on 28 April 1848, an episode of the Spring of Nations in Greater Poland, along with a scale model of the town with its former buildings. Further on await a collection of uniforms from 1914–1950, an exhibition devoted to the Fowler Brotherhood of Riflemen and a presentation of regional crafts.

Good to know

The institution was founded in 1937, but wartime destruction consumed the original collections, and the museum changed its premises several times and suspended its activity. Today's display is intimate — an hour is enough for a visit, best rounded off with a walk in the park surrounding the palace.
