Zawiszy Czarnego 1B, Gdynia
The Polish Navy Museum in Gdynia collects material on the Polish navy from 1919 to the present day. Its modern building stands right on the seafront boulevard, next to the museum ship ORP Błyskawica. The permanent exhibition follows the history of a navy created at the dawn of independence and the fate of its officers during both world wars.
A separate part of the display is the Armoury — a collection of naval weaponry removed from ships including ORP Sęp, ORP Błyskawica and ORP Gryf. Lovers of sailing ships will find models of vessels that plied European seas from the Middle Ages: a cog, a hulk, a clipper and the Santa Maria. Navigation instruments, firearms and the Lubinus maps complete the set.
Multimedia presentations enrich the exhibition, so it works well with children too. The museum runs lessons and workshops, and the building is wheelchair accessible. A visit takes about an hour.
