Henryk Sienkiewicz received the small palace in Oblęgorek near Kielce as a gift from Polish society on the 25th anniversary of his writing career. He treated it as a summer residence, and today the building operates as a branch of the National Museum in Kielce.
Visitors see the writer's study, drawing room, bedroom, dining room and smoking room with their original furnishings: furniture, paintings, family portraits and sculptures. The library bearing the laureate's signatures and stamps draws particular attention, as do the hunting trophies and the collection of African and Middle Eastern weapons.
The former children's and guest rooms house a biographical and literary exhibition devoted to the writer; museum lessons and academic sessions are also held here. The park around the manor is worth a stroll for the bust of Sienkiewicz and the Ursus spring.
