An industrialist's residence

The museum in Sosnowiec occupies a palace built for the Schoen family, owners of the textile works that operated here in the 19th century. The building stands in Schoen Park and is a monument in its own right — the stately interiors with their rich decoration have survived.

Glass collection and art

The most valuable holding is a collection of Polish utility, artistic and unique glass, covering works from the mid-19th century to the present day — the most extensive of its kind in the country. Alongside it hang paintings, prints, drawings and photographs by artists linked with Sosnowiec, among them members of the Cracow Group and the Zagłębie Group.

Good to know

The permanent display also traces the growth of Sosnowiec and the whole Dąbrowa Basin. The museum hosts openings, concerts and competitions, and for children workshops, museum lessons and an escape room; a café operates on site.
