Rybacka 84, Hel
Dom Morświna in Hel is a small display combining traditional showcases with multimedia, devoted to the only cetacean permanently living in the Baltic Sea. The facility is a branch of the Professor Krzysztof Skóra Marine Station, which belongs to the University of Gdańsk.
The exhibition explains why porpoises are threatened with extinction and what makes survival in the Polish part of the Baltic hardest for them. Research findings on the biology and ecology of the species are presented, along with films showing these shy mammals close up. A separate section covers dolphins and whales, which enter the Baltic ever more often.
The building is the first facility completed as part of the "Blue Village", a planned complex of research infrastructure for the station. A visit takes about an hour and combines well with a walk around Hel.
