Metalowa 8, Olsztyn
The Museum of Nature in Olsztyn is a branch of the Museum of Warmia and Masuria and gathers collections devoted to the animals of the region, counted among the richest in Poland in terms of fauna. The display occupies an intimate building near the town centre.
The permanent exhibition "Animals of Warmia and Masuria" presents over 250 species: from the European bison, the largest land mammal in Europe, through eagles and the endangered roller, to European pond turtles. The specimens are complemented by large photographs of habitats, which make it easier to understand where and how each species lives.
The museum also prepares temporary exhibitions on wildlife from outside the region, as well as lessons, workshops and art competitions for children and young people. It is a good idea for a break in a journey in bad weather — the whole display is under a roof.
