Rynek 2, Skoczów
The museum operates in a townhouse by the market square in Skoczów, Cieszyn district, regarded as the birthplace of St. John Sarkander. The display presents his life and the cult that grew around him in Skoczów and in Moravia.
Besides mementoes of the patron, the museum gathers sacred art from nearby churches: paintings, sculptures, old church prints, an eighteenth-century confessional and a tabernacle. A relief carved by Jan Wałach in 1936 is worth attention. A chapel open to visitors was arranged in the cellars of the building.
The museum also works as a local cultural centre, hosting exhibition openings, lectures and art competitions. The Sarkander trail starts at the building and leads through places in Skoczów connected with the saint; it is a natural extension of the visit and a good way to get to know the town.
