The forester's lodge in Pranie

The wooden forester's lodge in Pranie, today within the Ruciane-Nida commune, was the summer refuge of Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński. The poet worked here on pieces that entered the Polish canon, among them “Niobe”, “Wit Stwosz” and “Kronika Olsztyńska”.

What to see

The holdings were brought from the Museum of Literature in Warsaw and from the poet's Warsaw flat on Aleja Róż. The display includes personal belongings, family mementoes, photographs, manuscripts, first editions and his private library, as well as caricatures drawn by well-known graphic artists. The rooms have kept the scale and atmosphere of a forester's lodge, which sets the place apart from a typical biographical museum.

Good to know

The museum runs a lively artistic programme: poetry mornings, concerts of the “Music at Gałczyński's” series, the annual “Poetry at Gałczyński's” meetings, festivals and competitions. The lodge stands off the main roads, among forests by Lake Nidzkie, so a visit is easy to combine with a walk.
