Nature of the foothills

The natural history museum in Ciężkowice presents the nature of the Ciężkowice Foothills and the neighbouring area. Its holdings cover about 200 bird species, an entomological collection, hunting trophies, fossils and nearly 100 models of vascular plants.

What to see

The display has been extended with interactive stations. The most striking is a meadow hidden under a glass floor, where fragments of habitats and plant communities have been recreated. An illuminated ceiling panel controlled by sensors explains the anatomy of a bird, and next to it work an interactive river, a digital photo gallery of the museum's founders and a station with recordings of bird calls.

Who it suits

A formula based on touch and sound makes the museum an easy visit with children, and it does not depend on the weather. It is worth allowing extra time and booking a guide, who will also lead visitors around the nearby Skamieniałe Miasto (Petrified Town) reserve.
