Mielno
The fishing harbour in Unieście is one of the last working places of its kind on the Polish coast, where boats are pulled directly onto the sandy shore. It lies in the Mielno district, on the spit separating the Baltic from Lake Jamno, right by the broad Mielno-Unieście beach.
On site there are working boat winches, fishermen's buildings, net stores, repair workshops, smokehouses and filleting rooms. The most interesting moment is the return of the boats from the catch and their hauling ashore — that is when the whole organisation of the harbour becomes visible. Fresh fish can be bought straight from the fishermen.
Entry to the harbour area is free and half an hour is enough to look around. Fishing goes on all year, though the busiest time is summer and early autumn. Nearby taverns source their supplies from the local fishermen, so it is a good spot for a dish of herring, flounder or cod.
