This historic manor house in the Krzesławice district of Kraków belonged for years to Jan Matejko, who spent his summers here and set up his own studio. Earlier the estate was run by Hugo Kołłątaj. Today it is managed by the Society of Friends of Fine Arts as a biographical museum.
Only a few original furnishings have survived: the porch designed by the painter, a wooden bench and the front door. The interiors were completed with furniture brought from the Kraków palace of Xawery Pusłowski. The rooms display works by Matejko, his wife’s piano, archival photographs and the „Gallery of Polish Kings” based on the artist’s sketches. A separate room is devoted to Hugo Kołłątaj and his scholarly work.
A visit takes less than an hour and the intimate interiors invite unhurried viewing. The manor hosts concerts, lectures and themed meetings, so it is worth checking the current programme before arriving.
