The PTTK Regional Museum occupies a historic townhouse known as „Batorówka”, standing on the market square in Olkusz in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. It is run by the local PTTK branch and its collections tell the story of the town and the surrounding region.
The core of the display is the mining collection: a wooden hammer, lamps, picks, a mortar for crushing ore and a sieve for sifting it recall centuries of silver and lead extraction. Alongside are minerals and ammonites typical of the upland, among them a mammoth tooth found near Kroczyce. Attention is also drawn by a sword from the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries, which does not come from excavations but remained in the hands of local people for centuries.
A separate section presents enamelware from the Olkusz Enamelware Factory, known throughout Poland. The museum is small, which makes it a good short stop on a tour of the upland and a sensible choice on a rainy day.
