Roztocze crafts at one address

The Museum of Old Crafts in Szczebrzeszyn gathers workshops and tools of trades that have vanished or are slowly dying out. The display is largely open-air: visitors pass in turn through a windmill, an oil mill and a smithy, learning old working techniques and the way a craftsman's workshop was organised.

The windmill and the smithy

The main attraction is a post mill – the last working mill of its kind in the Roztocze region and a fine example of vernacular industrial building; its structure and operation are explained during the tour. The smithy came from the village of Szozdy and keeps its original equipment: a stone hearth, a block with an anvil and a full set of tools – hammers, punches, tongs, nail headers and chisels.

Good to know

The museum adjoins a historic restaurant, and at the end of the tour you can buy a commemorative coin showing the windmill. Szczebrzeszyn itself has kept its small-town layout and lies at the gateway to Roztocze National Park.
