The museum occupies a section of the fortification belt of the former Toruń Fortress on Poznańska Street, on the left bank of the Vistula. It is cared for by the Toruń Fortification Society. Preserved on the site are the experimental armoured battery AB IV and the semi-armoured S.L.B. battery with its ammunition shelter.
The exhibitions cover the history of the fortress, military history and the functioning of the Stalag XX A prisoner-of-war camp. The strongest impression is made by the descent into the underground SBF-180 shelter with its preserved equipment. Soviet observation and combat structures and German guard posts are also scattered across the grounds.
Visits are guided and must be booked in advance. Organised groups can order an extended route covering neighbouring structures of the old fortress. The underground rooms can be cool and damp, so warm clothing and sturdy shoes come in handy.
