Museum of the Poznań June

The Museum of the Poznań Uprising – June 1956 is housed in the Zamek Culture Centre on Św. Marcin Street, in the very centre of Poznań. It commemorates the workers' protest of June 1956, brutally crushed by the army and the militia.

What to see

The exhibition „The Poznań Uprising 1956 – Memory Preserved” leads through the streets of the city in the 1950s: the propaganda of the authorities, press reports and photographs from 28 June. A reconstructed flat from the communist era, a model tank and eyewitness accounts of Black Thursday build a picture of those days. Separate sections are devoted to the strikers from the Metal Industry Works, the reprisals against the protesters and the fate of children, including the youngest victim, Romek Strzałkowski.
