Museum of the city and the region

The Museum in Chorzów occupies a townhouse on Powstańców Street in the centre of this Upper Silesian city. It collects material linked to the history of Chorzów and its surroundings, and alongside the permanent displays it runs a broad cultural programme: exhibition openings, concerts, temporary shows and film screenings with discussion.

What to see

The exhibition on the origins of the city shows how many different organisms grew together into today's Chorzów and how its earlier inhabitants lived. A separate place belongs to the numismatic collection devoted to Silesian minting — cross deniers, Silesian quartniks and hellers, coins of the early modern Silesian duchies, of the Habsburgs and of the Prussian kings. The third pillar of the holdings is the work of Jan Wysocki, a painter, sculptor and medallist from Mysłowice.

The area

It makes a good stop when touring the conurbation — Silesian Park, the planetarium and the open-air museum lie nearby, and the museum itself provides historical context for the whole area.
