The Museum of the Limanowa Region is housed in the historic Mars family manor in the centre of Limanowa, at the foot of the Beskid Wyspowy mountains. It documents the history and ethnography of the area — since 1970 it has gathered more than twenty-six thousand exhibits along with library and archive collections.
The rooms lead through a reconstruction of the oldest pharmacy in town, founded by Ludwik Müller, and through displays on the commercial importance of Limanowa across the centuries. The highlight is the largest collection of watch chains in Poland, each piece carrying a story of its own. A small gallery of sketches and drawings by Maksymilian Brożek adds variety to the visit.
The museum runs calligraphy and stained-glass workshops as well as museum lessons on the heritage of the region, ethnography, photography and poster art. A visit combines well with the basilica in Limanowa and a trip into the surrounding ranges of the Beskid Wyspowy.
