A museum of the Green Kurpie

The Kurpie Museum in Wach lies north-east of Ostrołęka, in the area known as the Green Kurpie. It is devoted to the history, culture, folklore and folk art of the region, and its holdings rank among the richest regional collections in Mazovia.

Collections and old crafts

The collection numbers around fifteen thousand objects, the oldest dating from the end of the 18th century. Separate sections cover trades typical of the region: beekeeping in tree hives, amber working, weaving, carpentry, basketry and shoemaking. They are complemented by household equipment and farm tools showing the conditions of life and work on Kurpie homesteads.

Library and activities for children

The museum runs the Kurpie Library, which gathers publications about the region and about amber, including rare items of great value. Museum lessons and craft workshops are prepared for the youngest visitors, so a family visit is worth planning with time to spare — seeing everything takes about two hours.
