A historic house on the Old Town Market Square

Kamienica pod Gwiazdą stands in the frontage of the Old Town Market Square in Toruń and is one of the most recognisable buildings of the UNESCO-listed old town. Behind its richly decorated stucco façade, crowned with a gilded star, lies the Museum of Far Eastern Art, a branch of the District Museum in Toruń.

The oriental collection

The display gathers objects from Japan, China and India. Its core is the gift of Tadeusz Wierzejski, the most generous donor in the museum's history. Visitors see ancient Chinese bronzes, porcelain, carvings in precious and semi-precious stones and figures from Indian temples, complemented by textiles and small craftwork.

Garden and activities

Next to the house lies a small oriental garden with plants associated with the Far East: azaleas, bamboo, savin juniper and Japanese maple. The museum runs educational classes, tea ceremonies and themed events for children. The tour also leads along the historic wooden staircase.
