The Museum of Sea Fishing operates in Niechorze, a seaside village in the Gryfice county close to the well-known lighthouse. It was created on the initiative of the local community led by the fisherman Henryk Gmyrek, and tells the story of the work of people of the sea, past and present. The collection covers both fishing techniques and the nature of the Baltic.
The exhibition presents fishing boats, nets and the ways they are set, along with the flora and fauna of the Baltic Sea. A separate section is devoted to historic navigation instruments; the most valuable exhibit is an octant recovered from the waters off Niechorze. A further display looks at beaches from around the world and their surprising diversity.
The museum runs workshops on Baltic amber and the secrets of fishing, as well as activities for children and for people with disabilities. It is a good idea for a cooler day at the coast, alongside a walk to the cliff and the lighthouse.
