Dehnelów 10, Czeladź
The Saturn Museum in Czeladź occupies an imposing building known as the Palace under the Pillars, raised at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as the villa of the owner of the Saturn coal mine. It stands in the former workers' colony of Piaski, one of the best-preserved mining settlements of the Dąbrowa Basin.
Part of the original decor survives inside: stucco mouldings, ceilings with carved woodwork, oak panelling and a sideboard, mirror panes and two ceramic fireplaces. Permanent and temporary exhibitions deal with the town's history, coal mining and the culture of the region, and the museum also collects mementoes of former residents.
The exhibition halls host concerts, private views, meetings and conferences, and one room has been adapted as a wedding hall. Museum lessons and workshops devoted to Czeladź and its mining traditions await children and young people. The remaining rooms serve administrative and storage purposes.
