Art in the former Saturn colliery power plant

The Elektrownia Contemporary Art Gallery occupies a former power plant built in 1903 for the “Saturn” hard coal mine complex in Czeladź. The building belongs to the Industrial Monuments Route of the Silesian Voivodeship and is one of the best preserved examples of industrial architecture in the Dąbrowa Basin.

What to see

The hall has kept its original machinery, which now serves as a setting for exhibitions. The historic “Wanda” generator draws the eye, along with extensive power systems, a compressor and the control and measuring desk of the old installation. The pairing of raw machinery with contemporary art produces an effect no ordinary white gallery can match.

Events and surroundings

The gallery stages exhibitions of Polish and international artists, private views, concerts, lectures and art workshops. Every year it takes part in Industriada, the festival of the Industrial Monuments Route, which attracts enthusiasts of industrial heritage.
