Bogumiła Krygowskiego 10, Stare Miasto, Poznań
The UAM Earth Museum operates on the Morasko campus in Poznań, on Bogumiła Krygowskiego Street next to the Institute of Geology. It holds a collection of meteorites, minerals, rocks and fossils documenting the history of the Earth and the geological structure of Greater Poland and of the whole country.
The most striking exhibits are meteorites, Lower Silesian agates with colourful cross-sections, teeth and bones of animals millions of years old, and a rich mineral collection. Multimedia stations and VR goggles complete the display, offering two films: “Morasko Impact” and “The Glacial Epoch”. Children are especially drawn to this part.
A few dozen metres from the museum building lies the Lapidarium, a rock park. Huge glacial erratics have been set up there, along with displays on the use of various rocks in architecture, road building and art. There are also trunks of black oaks excavated in the Garbary district of Poznań, dated to about 2,700 years.
