Jaworzyna, Krynica-Zdrój
The Museum of Mountain Tourism operates on Jaworzyna Krynicka, one of the highest peaks of the Beskid Sądecki, next to the PTTK mountain hut. Marked trails lead up from Krynica-Zdrój and the surrounding valleys, and a gondola lift also reaches the top. The museum documents the history of mountain tourism in this part of the Carpathians and forms part of the centre of mountain tourism culture.
The collection holds archive material, maps and historic hiking equipment, while the exhibition explains how to move along the trails, how camps were organised, and the history and work of the mountain rescue service GOPR. Separate sections are devoted to people who shaped mountain tourism, to the history of the hut itself, and to mementoes of partisans who fought in the area during the Second World War.
A visit usually combines with a rest at the hut, so treat the museum as a stop on a longer hike. Access depends on the weather and the season — in winter the summit is part of a ski resort.
