Adama Mickiewicza 26, Skawina
The Regional Museum in Skawina occupies a building on Adama Mickiewicza Street, a few steps from the market square of this town southwest of Kraków, near the confluence of the Skawinka and the Vistula. It documents the history of a town founded by King Casimir III the Great and the material culture of the surrounding villages. The collection is divided into a historical and an ethnographic part, and the modest scale of the display means a visit takes about an hour.
The main exhibition leads through successive eras: the medieval foundation, the partitions, the interwar decades, both world wars, and the post-war rebuilding and industrialisation of Skawina. The ethnographic collection is shown separately — folk costumes, household equipment and farming tools of the region's former inhabitants. The set of paintings by Ludwik Lipowczan also draws attention.
The museum runs museum lessons and workshops for children and teenagers, including butter making, ceramics and sessions devoted to seasonal customs. It makes a good stop while exploring the area around Kraków, especially on a rainy day.
