The Maria Konopnicka Museum stands in Żarnowiec in the Krosno district, in a manor house presented to the poet as a gift of the Polish nation. The complex comprises the historic manor, the granary building known as the lamus, and the surrounding park. It is one of Poland's most important places of remembrance linked to nineteenth-century literature.
The exhibitions cover the writer's life, work and many journeys. They include manuscripts, first editions and everyday objects from her household, along with portraits, drawings and gifts from readers and institutions. The museum also gathers memorabilia of other authors — its holdings contain manuscripts by Orzeszkowa, Kraszewski, Przybyszewski and Żeromski. It is the largest biographical collection of its kind in Poland.
Żarnowiec lies in Subcarpathia, at the edge of the Low Beskids, among rolling fields and woodland. A visit combines well with Krosno, the oil industry open-air museum in Bóbrka or a trip towards the Magura National Park. The museum itself takes about an hour.
