Górecka 224, Wieś Brenna
The Bat Observatory in Brenna occupies the attic of the local primary school on Górecka Street, in Cieszyn county. It is one of very few places in Poland where a colony of these mammals can be watched in a natural roost they chose for themselves.
A guide explains the biology of bats, the way they find their way in the dark and their feeding habits, while an ultrasound detector makes audible the sounds the human ear cannot catch. The animals return to the attic after winter, which they spend in mountain caves, so the colony is present only seasonally. Visits must be arranged in advance.
The programme includes workshops for children and teenagers, their night-time editions and the outdoor game „In the tracks of bats”. Brenna lies in the Silesian Beskids at the mouth of the Brennica valley and makes a convenient base for trips to Błatnia and Kotarz.
