The Abbot's Granary is a farm building of the former Cistercian abbey in the Oliwa district of Gdańsk, erected in 1723 and today home to the Ethnography Department of the National Museum in Gdańsk. It stands on the edge of Oliwa Park, a few hundred metres from the cathedral, so a visit easily combines with a walk through the park.
The display covers some nine thousand objects of Pomeranian folk culture, supplemented by comparative material from Warmia, Masuria, Kuyavia and the Pałuki region. Separate sections deal with the Frisian settlers of Żuławy and with people resettled from the former eastern borderlands. A distinct part is the non-European collection: weapons, ceramics and ornaments from Africa, South America and Oceania.
The exhibition „Folk Culture of Gdańsk Pomerania” shows the everyday life and rituals of the former inhabitants of Kashubia and Kociewie, so the museum complements a journey around the region well. The interiors are wheelchair accessible, and workshops for children and young people, including ecological ones, are held here.
