Jadernych 19, Mielec
The Museum of the History of Photography „Jadernówka” occupies a townhouse on Jadernych Street in Mielec, built for the family of August Jaderny, a popular local photographer at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It housed a photographic studio and living quarters, with an adjoining photographic pavilion where pictures were taken in daylight.
The holdings number over forty thousand items and rank among the largest collections of photographic equipment in the country. They include cameras, lenses, tripods, flash lamps, darkroom and laboratory equipment, film cameras and projectors. A separate part consists of old photographs and mementoes of the Jaderny family together with a display about the studio itself.
The permanent exhibition is supplemented by temporary shows devoted to photography. The museum runs museum lessons and illusion workshops for children and young people, so it works well as a family stop. A visit takes about an hour and takes place indoors, whatever the weather.
