Kościuszki 5, Siewierz
The Chamber of Tradition and Old Culture is housed in a historic manor on Kościuszki Street in Siewierz, built in the 18th century by the Franek family. The institution documents the history and customs of the former Duchy of Siewierz, one of the historically more intriguing corners of the borderland between Lesser Poland and Silesia.
Around two thousand exhibits linked to crafts, archaeology, handicraft and art have been gathered here. Two models draw particular attention: Siewierz Castle as it looked at the end of the 18th century and the no longer existing town hall of the 16th century. The display is rounded out by old tools of local craftsmen and works by area painters, sculptors and folk artists.
A visit takes about an hour and is best combined with the nearby ruins of the castle of the bishops of Cracow. Souvenirs and publications about Siewierz and its surroundings are on sale on site, and collectors of tourist stamps can get the imprints of the Chamber and of Siewierz Castle.
