Ratuszowa 5, Mrągowo
Located on Ratuszowa Street, this branch of the Museum of Warmia and Masuria in Olsztyn tells the story of the town and the prehistory of the Masurian Lake District. It is a compact display that can be seen at an easy pace within an hour.
The permanent exhibition has two parts. The first covers the town's history from the 17th to the 20th century and explains how Ządźbork became Mrągowo. The second, „The Mrągowo area in prehistory”, presents the earliest traces of human presence around the Masurian lakes: tools made of reindeer, aurochs and elk antler, objects of bone, stone and flint, and a point carved from elk antler. Temporary shows supplement the permanent display.
A good idea for a rainy day while touring Masuria, families included — the museum runs classes on folk customs and regional history. Mrągowo lies between Mikołajki and Kętrzyn, so a visit fits easily into a longer route across the Great Masurian Lakes.
