Local mementoes at the foot of the Karkonosze

The House of Tradition occupies a restored townhouse in the centre of Kowary, a town set in a valley between the Karkonosze and the Rudawy Janowickie mountains. It is run by the Association of Kowary Enthusiasts, and its collection is made up of keepsakes donated by residents. This is an intimate place where local history is told through everyday objects and documents.

What you will see inside

The rooms hold, among others, an extensive collection of postcards of old Kowary and the magic doors made by local artists. The most interesting part is the mining corner devoted to iron and uranium ore extraction in the area, presenting both the facts about the mines and the myths that have grown around them and still circulate in the region.

The surroundings

It is worth looking at the facade with allegories of four trades: miner, weaver, blacksmith and brewer. It was created as part of a project recalling the vanishing professions of the Polish-Czech borderland. Kowary itself makes a good base for trips into the Karkonosze and the Rudawy Janowickie.
