The Lusatian Museum occupies a restored townhouse in the Nyskie Suburb of Zgorzelec, right by the Lusatian Neisse and a few steps from the border with German Görlitz. The institution is devoted to the culture of Upper Lusatia and to the town's own history.
Inside, a room of an Umgebinde house has been reconstructed — a building type typical of the borderland, combining a timber and a masonry section. It is filled with furniture and everyday objects from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The second part of the display covers the history of Zgorzelec and Upper Lusatia on both banks of the river.
The museum works across the border: Polish-German meetings, film screenings and events bringing together the residents of Zgorzelec and Görlitz. Children are offered pottery and archaeology workshops, with a summer series for the youngest. A visit combines easily with a walk across the bridge to the old town of Görlitz.
