The Gdynia City Museum stands on Zawiszy Czarnego Street, a few steps from the waterfront and Kościuszko Square. Its modern white form is often compared to a ship and is itself one of the more interesting examples of contemporary architecture in the city. The institution documents the history of Gdynia, from a fishing village to a port and a city of modernism.
The displays gather photographs, drawings, postcards, maps, plans, posters, documents and everyday objects that belonged to the residents. Alongside the permanent exhibition, the museum presents temporary projects devoted to art, Polish designers and the city itself, and the space also serves as a meeting place for the people of Gdynia.
The museum offers guided tours, workshops and city games for children, young people and adults. It has also prepared an app with a walk following the traces of Tadeusz Wenda, the designer of the Gdynia port, which you can set off on right after the visit.
