A museum in the former abbot's house

The „Opatówka” Regional Museum in Wągrowiec occupies a historic 16th-century house that once belonged to the local abbot. The building itself is among the oldest in town and forms part of the attraction.

What to see

The collection is divided into four sections: archaeology, history, art and ethnography. Together they present the past of Wągrowiec and its surroundings — from finds at nearby sites to burgher mementoes and everyday objects. The exhibition space is small, so part of the holdings is shown in rotation at temporary displays, and part is lent to other institutions.

Good to know

Beyond exhibitions the museum runs educational classes, competitions, meetings and openings, and works with regional historians; the results are published in the journal „Wangrovieciana”. Wągrowiec makes a good stop on a route through the Pałuki region, a land of lakes and post-Cistercian heritage.
