An underground exhibition in the Spa House

The Spa Museum in Świeradów-Zdrój, also known as the Museum of Spa Mining, occupies the cellars of the Spa House in the centre of the resort at the foot of the Izera Mountains. It opened in 2014, on the 250th anniversary of the first mineral water springs in the town being lined and enclosed.

What to see

The display tells how a spa grew out of healing springs: it recalls legends of the miraculous water, the earliest accounts of its properties and the opinion of the German physician Leonard Thurneyssen on the local radon-rich waters. A separate section covers mining, an inseparable part of the town's history. Wall paintings showing life in the sanatorium and sandstone sculptures stand out, among them Saint Barbara, patron of miners.

The area

A visit takes half an hour and combines easily with a stroll through the spa park and a look inside the wooden Promenade Hall. The trails of the Izera Mountains and the gondola lift to Stóg Izerski are close by.
