A museum in a Baroque townhouse

The Gustaw Morcinek Museum occupies a late Baroque townhouse built in 1793 in the centre of Skoczów. The institution combines two threads: the biography of a writer connected with Cieszyn Silesia and the history and crafts of the region. The building stands within a short walk of the market square and the town's other monuments.

What to see

The main exhibition is devoted to the life and work of Gustaw Morcinek, author of „Łysek z pokładu Idy” among other books. It gathers family portraits, letters, photographs, books and everyday objects, and one of the rooms recreates the writer's study with original period furniture. The second part of the collection covers the archaeology of the Cieszyn area and regional crafts, above all tanning, pottery and hat making.

Good to know

The museum does more than run a permanent display: it organises temporary exhibitions, literary meetings, city games, the night of museums and anniversary events. The visit takes little time, so it is easy to combine with a drive through Cieszyn Silesia.
