The burgher townhouse on Katedralna Street in Częstochowa is home to the Museum of Częstochowa Jews. The institution recalls a community that before the Second World War made up twenty to thirty per cent of the town's residents and helped shape its economy and cultural life.
The permanent display gathers photographs and relics of the New Synagogue, which no longer exists — floor tiles, candlesticks, a spice box and other objects of religious worship. Alongside them are the life stories of well-known Częstochowa Jews and their contribution to industry and culture. The narrative leads through the pre-war years, the Holocaust and the post-war fate of the survivors.
The museum also hosts conferences, meetings and literary evenings linked to the themes of its collection. Museum lessons based on the permanent exhibition are offered to children and teenagers. A visit takes about an hour, and the Old Town and Jasna Góra are close by.
