A town hall with a Mehoffer collection

The Józef Mehoffer Town Museum of Turek occupies the historic late-Classicist town hall on Plac Wojska Polskiego, in the very centre of town. Its patron is no coincidence — the Cracow artist designed the polychrome decoration and stained glass for the local church.

What to see

The core of the display is Mehoffer's work: sketches, stained glass and designs for wall paintings, complemented by mementoes of the artist — personal belongings, photographs and letters. The second part of the collection concerns old Turek: archaeological finds, keepsakes of former residents and craft traditions. A weaver's workshop has been reconstructed here, with a white and a black room, looms, weaving tools, old furniture and everyday utensils.

Good to know

The colourful folk costumes of the Turek region catch the eye. The museum runs workshops in its stained glass and ceramics studio, and a tourist information point operates in the building. A visit takes about an hour and works in any weather.
