Ceramics Museum in Bolesławiec – Town History Department

A branch of the Bolesławiec museum

The Town History Department is one of the branches of the Ceramics Museum in Bolesławiec and is devoted to the history of the town and the Bolesławiec region. The display runs from archaeological finds, that is Mesolithic tools and vessels of the Lusatian culture, through to the modern period and the nineteenth century.

What to see

The best known exhibit is a model of the centre of Bolesławiec from 1805 at a scale of 1:4000, showing the town's layout before later rebuilding. Attention is also drawn by the reconstructed interiors of the oldest town pharmacy, with original furniture and a multimedia presentation on pharmacy, alchemy and herbal medicine. A separate room covers the Napoleonic period, with weapons, cannonballs and battle prints, while another set consists of sculptures from the ceramics and sculpture workshops held here.

Who it suits

The museum runs ceramic, archaeological, soap making and art workshops for children and teenagers, which makes it a good stop in a town famous for its pottery.
