Edyty Stein 2, Lubliniec
The Pro Memoria Edith Stein Museum operates in the centre of Lubliniec, in a historic townhouse that once belonged to the grandparents of Edith Stein — philosopher and Carmelite nun, known as Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. Two exhibition rooms are filled with modern multimedia presentations, and the building stands on a street named after the saint.
The exhibition follows the successive stages of her biography: childhood in a Jewish family, youthful atheism, studies in Wrocław and Göttingen, the path to baptism and monastic life. A separate section is devoted to her death in the German camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.
The place suits anyone interested in twentieth-century history, philosophy and the multicultural past of Upper Silesia. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, openings and cultural meetings. A visit takes about an hour and combines easily with a walk around Lubliniec. Admission is free.
