Romanów, Wieś Sosnówka
The museum occupies a historic manor house in Romanów in southern Podlasie, in the Sosnówka commune. Józef Ignacy Kraszewski spent his childhood here with his grandparents; later he came back only as a guest, and the place itself recurred in his novels.
The display covers the life and output of a writer who remains unmatched in the number of books he wrote and who, besides literature, took up painting, history and archaeology. Among the mementoes are his manuscripts, watercolours and drawings, almost a complete set of editions of his works, family documents and a porcelain toy from his childhood.
The manor is surrounded by a park laid out in the Italian style at the turn of the 18th century. Its northern part holds a manor chapel founded by the writer's great-grandmother, and one of the alleys has a Kraszewski bench.
