Ulica Pomorska Museum is a branch of the Museum of Cracow housed in the Silesian House in the Krowodrza district. During the German occupation the building served as the Gestapo headquarters, a remand prison and a place of execution for the inhabitants of the city and the whole region.
The most moving part of the visit are the former cells with the preserved inscriptions left by prisoners. The permanent exhibition “Cracovians and Terror 1939–1945–1956” shows the fate of the city under two totalitarian systems and the similarity of the methods of violence used against people.
Since 1981 the building has served as a museum and a place of remembrance for Poles, Jews and people of other nationalities murdered by the German Nazis. The institution runs lectures and educational walks. A visit takes about an hour, and the difficult subject makes it a proposal rather for older teenagers and adults.
