A museum in the abbots' granary

The Abbots' Granary in the Oliwa district of Gdańsk houses the Ethnographic Museum, a branch of the National Museum in Gdańsk. The listed 18th-century building stands on the grounds of the former Cistercian abbey, right by the Oliwa park and cathedral. The display fills several floors of the old grain store.

Folk culture of Pomerania

The collection numbers about nine thousand objects linked with Kashubia, Żuławy, Powiśle and Kociewie. The permanent exhibition shows historic farming, animal husbandry, fishing and home processing, as well as a set of Pomeranian furniture: dressers, wardrobes, chests and stools.

Good to know

A separate place is given to mementoes of the Żuławy settlers and of people resettled from the former eastern borderlands. A surprising accent is a collection of weapons, ceramics and sculpture from Africa, South America and Oceania.
