Rynek Staromiejski 1 , Toruń
The Old Town Hall stands in the middle of the Old Town Market Square in Toruń and ranks among the most valuable Gothic buildings in Central Europe. Its massive quadrangular body with an inner courtyard and a tall tower marks the central point of the old town, which is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The town hall houses the main seat of the District Museum in Toruń. The displays cover Gothic art, artistic craftsmanship and numismatics, and one of the most interesting collections is the oldest gallery of Polish kings in the country. The painting gallery shows works by Malczewski, Witkiewicz and Beksiński as well as portraits of figures linked with the city, including Nicolaus Copernicus.
It is worth ending the visit by climbing the town hall tower, which offers a panorama of the old town, the Vistula and the bridge. Steep stairs lead up to the terrace. The building also hosts municipal ceremonies and cultural events.
